I wanted to paint something that is a part of my identity that I have struggled with, which is being a CBC (Chinese-born Canadian). Since I grew up in an English-dominated environment, I've occasionally felt distant from my Chinese roots. Hence the title and Chinese text meaning "barrier," as I believe there can be an overwhelming barrier between cultural differences at times.

Line Rider: Pink in the Night
Transforming the open-ended canvas of the 2006 Flash game "Line Rider" into a musically-synced introspective landscape, our piece "Pink in the Night", set to the Mitski song of the same name, explores and accentuates our trans-lesbian feelings of isolation and longing. Mitski is a half-Japanese artist just like us, and the world of the track places the natural scenery of Vancouver and the Pacific Northwest among more ethereal imagery of stars and planets to simulate the feeling of being in love with someone, all captured from the perspective of an innocent kid on a sled physically navigating through the tangels of our personal mindscape

A shadow of a girl resting in a field of flowers that is separated into four sections. Each representing a different part of her identity. In her hands she holds a bouquet of them all, symbolizing her individual acceptance of all the different cultures.
Although each variety of flowers is different and unique, you should always be able to find the beauty in a mix of everything that makes you yourself.
Symbolism:
Each quarter of the background has different flowers with colours that match the respective flags of her identity.
Top Left: Strelitzia – British Columbia – Freedom and a tribute for British Columbia’s History and heritage. In honor of our diversity and the struggles people of colour had to face.
Top Right: Amaryllis – Canada – Pride and Strength for being a Canadian Citizen.
Bottom Left: Peony – China – Family, ethnicity, and honor. Represents her family tree and roots.
Bottom Right: Lavender – Herself – Her individuality, devotion, and connection with oneself.

I used acrylic paint to capture the essence of nature during the spring season. The theme of these paintings is nature in perspective. I used texture, shadows and light to make my art attract and connect! While painting these, I began to understand the importance of creativity and the significance of imagination.
